Dr. Robb, The Sciton Halo hybrid fractional laser [Sciton] strikes a balance in between nonablative and ablative results, according to Christopher Robb, M.D., Ph. D., a Nashville, Tenn., skin specialist, who conducted the initial client procedure studies on the Halo. "It's a second-generation nonablative laser. It integrates a brand-new wavelength, 1470 nm nonablative, with an ablative erbium YAG 2940 nm [wavelength]," Dr.
"So, it's combining two different treatments that in the past were done independently." This first-of-its-kind technology delivers nonablative and ablative pulses all at once. The 1470 nm wavelength delivers in between 100 and 700 microns of coagulation to the skin and dermis. The 2940 nm wavelength provides absolutely no to 100 microns of ablation to the skin, according to a Sciton press release.
Or they could do an ablative laser, which has a longer downtime," Dr. Robb states. "This has discovered a balance. You can call it in, so you can get an ablative outcome, but you have a nonablative healing time." The Halo is used to treat dyschromia, pores, wrinkles around the eyes and deep wrinkles.
Robb says, it can be utilized to deal with the hands and arms, too. "It's amazing for poikiloderma on the neck," he says. NEXT: Patient Choice & Cost Patient Selection & Cost Best candidates for treatment, according to Dr. Robb, are clients who would typically need two or three various lasers in different treatments.
Other candidates are individuals who don't want much downtime. They might wish to be treated Friday and be back to work Monday. After treatment with the Halo, "Clients can wear makeup the next day," Dr. Robb says. For patients with skin types one through four, physicians would do a maximum of two treatments, a month apart.
There is no data on dealing with skin type seven with the Halo, according to Dr. Robb. While Dr. Robb states that post-treatment erythema isn't bad and just lasts a couple of days, he uses an intense-pulsed laser (IPL) device after Halo treatment to eliminate the redness, faster. Amongst those who aren't prospects for the laser: Clients with persistent illnesses Those just recently treated with isotretinoin Clients with active infections, such as fever blisters The cost of consumables with this gadget is reasonable.
